Stephanie Diaz, Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern at Family Therapy Broward, smiling in a rust-orange top

Stephanie is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern who is passionate about helping children, adolescents and adults navigate life's challenges, heal from difficult experiences, and recognize their own strengths. With a background in residential treatment and school counseling, she brings valuable experience supporting individuals facing a wide range of emotional, behavioral and mental health concerns.

With experience supporting individuals through complex mental health challenges, trauma and addiction recovery, Stephanie understands that healing is rarely a one-size-fits-all journey. She works with clients navigating emotional struggles, difficult family dynamics and major life changes. Whether someone is learning to manage overwhelming emotions, process painful experiences or rebuild their sense of stability, Stephanie helps clients develop the tools and confidence to move forward at their own pace.

Stephanie's approach combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered techniques and mental health psychoeducation to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions and experiences. She believes therapy should be a collaborative process, balancing compassion and understanding with practical tools that clients can carry into their everyday lives.

Her decision to become a therapist was shaped by her own experiences navigating anxiety and the importance of feeling genuinely heard and supported. These experiences inspired her belief that no one should have to face life's most difficult moments feeling misunderstood or alone. Today, she brings that perspective into her work, recognizing that building trust and meaningful connections is often the first step toward positive change.

Before joining the practice, Stephanie worked as a residential therapist supporting individuals experiencing substance use disorders and significant mental health challenges. She also has experience as a school counselor working with students from kindergarten through eighth grade. These experiences have strengthened her ability to connect with people from different backgrounds and tailor her support to each individual's unique needs.

One of Stephanie's favorite grounding techniques is diaphragmatic breathing, also known as belly breathing. She appreciates how something as simple as slowing down and reconnecting with the present moment can help individuals manage stress and overwhelming emotions. For Stephanie, these small, intentional moments are a reminder that meaningful progress doesn't always require big changes.

Outside of her clinical work, Stephanie finds joy in life's simple moments, whether it's a thoughtful gesture, a genuine smile, or knowing she's made a positive difference in someone's day. She believes that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a lasting impact, a philosophy she carries into her relationships with clients.

One quote that resonates with Stephanie is, "You are not your past. You are the person you choose to become." It reflects her belief that while our experiences shape us, they do not have to define our future.
